I WILL not accept any form of political intimidation by the oppressive UPND government through arrests, PF presidential aspirant Chishimba Kambwili has vowed.

And Kambwili has been granted K50 000 bail by the Kasama Magistrate Court.

This is in a case where he is accused of using hate speech contrary to section 70 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offense are that on dates unknown, but between July 21 and August 8, 2021 in Kasama of Northern Province of the Republic of Zambia, the 53 year old politician allegedly willfully and unlawfully did express words of hatred and ridicule against the Tonga speaking because of their tribe and origin.

When the matter came up, Wednesday, for the explanation of the charge at the Kasama Magistrate Court, his lawyer Chola Chama of Chola Chama Legal Practioners, made an application that Dr. Kambwili be granted bail as the offense he is charged with is bailable.

Resident Magistrate Samson Mumba granted Dr. Kambwili a K50, 000 bail in his own recognizance and two working sureties from credible institutions.

The State applied for adjournment to a later date as it awaits for consent to prosecute from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Yesterday, Dr. Kambwili applied to the Kasama High Court to grant him bail, as police had denied him bond despite meeting the bond conditions.

The matter has since been adjorned to July 7, 2022 as the date for mention.

And speaking to sympathizers upon his release, Dr. Kambwili said he will not be intimidated by a dictatorial and brutal UPND administration through arrests.

Dr. Kambwili said he does not understand why he was transported to Kasama District in Northern Province yet the offense he is accused of having committed was reported in Lusaka.

He said the UPND government under President Hakainde Hichilema was a brutal regime whose interest is to silence critics.

Dr. Kambwili said the selection application of arrests are targeted at killing the PF and instilling fear in those that still believe in the former ruling party.

He wondered why President Hichilema and his government are using worse tactics than those they condemned the PF for, saying the UPND leadership is still in a disbelief of having won the 2021 general election.

“The problem with my brother President Hichilema (Hakainde) wants to do politics as if he is still in the opposition. He doesn’t believe that he won the election and he is President for the country now. That is why he is too scared with the PF, he doesn’t sleep, whenever he hears Pf speak he is frightened and the only way to deal with it is to allow his officers to arrest individuals,” said Dr. Kambwili.
