Fred M’membe

Socialist Party leader Fred M’membe says the American government will only set up its military base in the country over Zambians’ dead bodies.

He says Americans are coming to Zambia so that they can loot the country’s minerals.

“The Americans are coming for Minerals and over our dead body they set their military base,” says M’membe.

Speaking during a press conference on the planned establishment of the AFRICOM office by the US government, M’membe said the Zambia government is afraid to tell Zambians the truth regarding the matter fearing revolt.

M’membe questions why the African masses in general is against the idea, he questions its intentions, mission and its history.

He says looking at the history of AFRICOM, it was set up to protect US interests in Africa, obviously at the expense of African nations, including Zambia itself.

M’membe said late President Levy Mwanawasa opposed the idea of hosting the command, when the then George Bush administration raised the matter.

He says the so-called military cooperation will result in Zambia surrendering its sovereignty to America. As Zambia’s military doctrine will be highjacked, through the so-called cooperation.

He questions that since when did America had interest in protecting Zambia’s interests.
